The tile of today is not the utilitarian square tile of the past. Tile is now used in a decorative way to add personality and flair to any space in a home. Modern tile choices are endless and come in many organic shapes, colors, forms, textures, and designs.
At Stone West, we stay ahead of the design trends and continuously update our showroom samples with the best on offer from the highest quality tilemakers from around the globe. Whether you’re in the midst of a remodel or thinking about your next home project, our design team has put together a list of 2023 trends in tile that are sure to inspire.
Bold Rich Colors
Bold-colored tiles add lively energy to any room. Deep greens, bold blues, fiery reds, and even bubblegum pink (yes, like in your grandparent’s bathroom) are being used on walls, floors, counters, and backsplashes.
Floor-to-Ceiling Mosaic Walls
Tiling a wall from floor-to-ceiling, especially in smaller spaces that may lack natural light, can significantly open up a room. The options of tile color, size, and finish are endless and the pattern you create will make this feature one-of-a-kind.
Statement or Feature Walls
Add a “wow factor” to any room or entryway with a fully tiled statement or feature wall. The texture, color, and finish of tile breaks up the monotony of the room and creates a unique design element. Our showroom photo below features just a few of the many possibilities available at Stone West.
Tile Rugs
A tile rug is created by using a large format tile with an inset of a tile mosaic to resemble a rug. The beauty of a tile rug is it can be made in any size or shape. It’s an ideal way to define space, especially in a large or odd-shaped room. It also creates an interesting focal point and is easier to keep clean than a traditional rug!
New Shapes
A trend towards geometric tiles – triangles, hexagons, diamonds – and unique-shaped tiles (such as puzzle pieces, shown on the lower left in our showroom photo) was in for last year and is staying around for 2023! If you’re unsure about committing to an entire floor or wall of trendy tiles, opt to mix and match them with standard tiles to create a one-of-a-kind design.
Patterned Tile
Incorporating patterned tile into a room can turn it from bland to bold and interesting. This year we will see a continuation of Moroccan-inspired designs and an uptick in floral tiles. Patterned tiles can be used in many ways and our knowledgeable staff is happy to provide guidance to help you create something that fits your home and your style.
Nude Neutrals
Grey tile has been a favorite neutral tile for the last few years and it isn’t going anywhere, but we are seeing a comeback for “nude neutrals” such as beige and cream in tile trends for 2023. Both grey and nude neutrals are popular options for bathrooms that will add a subtle elegance to any room in the house.
Blues & Greens
Trending tiles of blues and greens include earthy jewel tones such as the deep blue hues of the ocean and deep jungle greens. Our showroom’s bathroom (pictured below) displays two different types of gorgeous green tiles.
Large Format
Any tile longer than 12 inches is considered a large format tile. The larger format may be square or rectangular and can be used as planks on floors or walls. They also work well in small spaces, such as shower stalls, because they give the illusion of enlarging the space, plus there are fewer grout lines to clean.
Classic White Marble
White marble will give any room an instant facelift! The classic look of marble is clean and sophisticated in any home. Some of the many reasons to incorporate marble into your home include marble’s durability, versatility, timeless beauty, and the value added to your home.
Artisan Crafted Tile
We also carry handmade tile designed by artists made in the US as well as tile crafted all over the world – Italy, Morocco, France, Portugal, and Spain – by the finest craftsman. These high-quality tiles include subtle variations and textures that contribute to their uniqueness.
